19th July 1918

Pte Frank Ward R.A.M.C.

Awarded The Military Medal For

Bravery In The Field

St Giles Church Magazine.

Citation (above)

During July 1918 Frank was stationed in the village of Gorre, the dressing station being located in the brewery. On 19th July Frank volunteered along with a fellow stretcher bearer to make the dash under heavy shell fire to the Chateau at the opposite end of the village to bring the wounded back to the dressing station.

This action along with two previous heroic deeds earned Frank the Military Medal. The above postcard shows the 'gateway' to the chateau.
